Is the Kindle the future for recipe books?

Are you using your Kindle as a kitchen tool in order to save those sagging shelves and replace the books with a TV or an American Fridge?

I ask this question as someone who has an obsession with cookbooks. I love reading them, with their glossy pages and amazing photos. But I am finding more and more that I am using my Kindle to find recipes from the internet.

I regularly cook out of my cookbooks and love to be able to compare the finished dish to the one in the picture which is not possible with the Kindle's display. With a cookbook I do not have to worry if I splash something on it or have my hands covered in flour. Buy I am still wondering if the Kindle is the way forward.

However I am concerned that if I continue buying cookbooks I might need a bigger house or worse have to start selling some of the older ones. The Kindle is a reading device and more or less that’s it! It is great if all you're doing is looking at text. Cookbooks are full of rich content, and I am worried when I feel like the cooking experience might be lacking with the Kindle .

But the big question is this. If I am looking for a recipe for a particular dish, do I need to know what the finished dish looks like? For me it is important as I would not want to serve a dish which is horrible in colour and texture.

Due to the success of the likes of the Hairy Bikers and Gordon Ramsey, publishers can finally offer decent cookbooks at an attractive cost for lesser known cooks on the Kindle and in print. So getting a digital version of a cookbook that takes up less space in my kitchen which is cheaper than a printed version is an attractive proposition.

As you might be able to tell form this article I am still in two minds if I should go all the way and convert my cook books to the Kindle or just buy a bigger house. Have you been converted to cook books on the Kindle? If so let us know your thoughts.

Each of the Mincers reviewed below have a sausage making accessory which is great for making sausages in your own home.

Andrew James Premium Electric Meat Mincer Grinder

Andrew James Premium Electric Meat Grinder and Sausage Maker is one of the best quality grinders on the market today.

Andrew James Premium Electric Meat Grinder and Sausage Maker has plenty of power as the motor slow down noticeably whilst trying all sorts of things. It is easy to clean. The three Grinding plates are more than adequate for almost anything.

Kenwood MG510 Meat Grinder

The Kenwood MG510 Meat Grinder comes with a premium brushed metal body and is compact in its design.

This mincer gives professional results and can mince up to 2 kg of meat per minute. The mincer is east to assemble and cleaning is a breeze.

The only downside is the noisy motor and the accessories are not dishwasher proof although they are easy to clean.

A wide range of attachments are additionally included: three stainless steel screens for fine, medium and course results, a die-cast metal hopper with meat dish/dust cover and a sausage- and kebbe-maker attachment conveniently stored in the pusher.

Lloytron E5690BK Meat Grinder, 1200 Watt

The Lloytron E5690BK Meat Grinder, 1200 Watt is an adequate machine with a large 1200W motor. This does make it a bit noisey. It can be hard work pushing the meat through the machine, especially when it is set to the fine setting.

In summary this is an average machine which is a little slow and it needs a lot of elbow grease to push the meat through, and the sausage machine is not as reliable as the accessory supplied on other machines.

The Loytron Meat Grinder has a premium polished metal body, a compact design and an on/off/reverse switch. A wide range of attachments are additionally included: three stainless steel screens for fine, medium and course results, a sausage maker, kebbe maker and a food pusher, and Aluminium food basin.

Breville VTP141 Meat Grinder

The Breville VTP141 Meat Grinder will quickly become an indispensable tool in your kitchen.

The grinder is simple to set up and has suction pads so it should not slide on the worktop. The grinder very well made and would not look out of place in any kitchen.

Grinding could not be simpler, just cut the meat into chunks and put it in the machine and away you go, the meat is the transformed into quality mince. The sausage attachment is easy to use and is great fun. The machine is easy to clean and comes with an instruction booklet which also provides you with some excellent starter recipes. As with most mincers this machine large and could be difficult to store.

The kit also includes a food pusher to help insert the food into the grinder and a sausage stuffer for perfectly-formed sausages.

Clatronic KM-3421 Food Dough Mixer Meat Mincer

The Clatronic KM-3414 is an amazing kitchen tool for making food preparation quick and easy.

With 1000W of power, the KM-3414 is great for any stirring, kneading and mixing and can also be used as a meat grinder and sausage machine

The stainless steel bowl has a 5 litre volume capacity, and up to 2 kg of dough can be mixed. The kit includes a stirring hook, dough hook, and whisk and sausage accessory.

After a hard day's work the KM-3421 can be easily cleaned. Although this blog post is generally about grinders we would recommend this machine if you are short on space or only need to mince ocassionally.

Russell Hobbs 18537 Halogen Oven

The Russell Hobbs 18537 Halogen Oven cooks food faster and is cleaner than a regular oven. It is versatile and is perfect for roasting, baking, grilling and even defrosting. In our opinion food tastes better when cooked in this oven!

The Russell Hobbs Halogen Oven cuts down the cooking time and is especially useful when you're using it in conjunction with your normal oven. The oven is fitted with a timer and has a clear glass body which allows you to see your food while it cooks, meaning you don't lose heat by constantly checking to see if the food is ready.

It's well built, and with care will last many for many years to come. The oven can be put away easily, and is easy to clean, and takes up little space and would work perfectly in a mobile home or caravan.

Some people might be reluctant to go for a halogen oven, or may or may just think it is a gimmick. But this would be a shame as this oven meets all expectations and does what it says on the box, with minimum fuss, it is a fraction of the cost of a conventional oven and cheaper to run. The only negative is the lack of information with timings and settings for different foods and baking you might be left guessing and having to experiment but its quick and easy to get the hang of this oven.

All in all The Russel Hobbs Halogen Oven is an excellent purchase and you may never go back to a normal oven again!

A cheaper and effective alternative is the Andrew James 12 LTR Premium Halogen Oven Cooker
